About ThingsTraded.com
In the early 1990s, I had an idea for something as old as time itself—the concept of 'bartering'. Long before the invention of currency, people exchanged what they had for what they needed—be it a rabbit for a pearl, a bundle of grain for a tool, or a service for a service. Barter was the original economy, based on trust and value, and I wanted to find a way to bring it back in the modern world. At that time, the internet was still in its infancy, and the idea of creating a platform for people to trade goods and services felt like the next step in evolving this age-old practice.
I worked hard to bring this vision to life, even having a friend design a logo for the project. However, with the internet still new and technology constantly evolving, I found myself struggling to find the right developers and resources to build it. In a time when Google was just starting to gain traction, I couldn’t afford to continue the project, and the idea was set aside. Unfortunately, I forgot to renew the URL, and to my dismay, it was lost to someone else. I kept the old files, holding on to the hope that one day, the idea might resurface.
For nearly 30 years, I watched as the new owners of the URL did nothing with it, and my dream of creating a place where people could trade was put on pause. But this year, nearly three decades later, something incredible happened. I decided to check the domain again, and to my absolute disbelief, the URL was available. I couldn’t believe it, but after re-checking the details, I bought it—reclaiming the dream I had started so many years ago.
Now, in 2025, I’m thrilled to finally have the skills and support to bring ThingsTraded.com to life. It’s not just a platform—it’s a community (micro and macro) movement that many people need right now. Confidence for sharing whats valuable and honest within the spirit of trading (barter). This is the currency we may need to return to. And maybe it will be more than necessary, maybe even exhilarating and fun.
